The only reason we still go to the cinema is to watch movies in 3D. This effect offers a greater experience, but the principle behind it is very simple. This is why Stereoscopic Player makes it possible to play 3D movies from the comfort of your desktop. The player is based on DirectShow, so it can recognize most video formats, including popular ones, like AVI, MPEG, WMV, ASF or MOV. Stereoscopic videos come with various input settings, but this will not be a problem for the player. You can load them like any other video file, save their input settings or export them as a stereoscopic metafile (.svi) on your hard drive.

The player's setup file is not large and you can install it fast on various Windows platforms. The process is straightforward, but you may need to download and install additional codecs for a smooth playback.

Stereoscopic Player's interface is very similar to the classic Windows Media Player. The playback options, volume control and basic information about the loaded video file are placed in the same places. The software's real potential can be found under its hood. The first thing you should know is that it lets you load and play stereoscopic videos, from DVDs or files on your hard drive and you can even watch live videos from a capture device.

Stereoscopic videos are basically two identical videos, with different colors, placed one above the other. They can be overlapped in various ways, which means that one movie can be seen in 3D without any problems, while others will not look so good, assuming that you are using the same glasses. When loading a video with Stereoscopic Player, you will be prompted to specify how the video is encoded and select a viewing method. In other words, you will have to select a layout (how the images are overlapped), select a number of files, an aspect ratio and choose if you want to convert interlaced videos or not.

Stereoscopic Player will save your input settings for each video, in its integrated library. This means that you will not have to select any input options each time you load the same stereoscopic video. If you load a popular 3D-DVD or video file, you can set the player to retrieve the proper settings from a web server. After loading a video, the viewing method, aspect ratio and other configurations can be made at any time with the options from the top menu. Of course, it is possible to play 2D movies as well. You can either select this input option when you load it, or you can switch from the stereoscopic to the monoscopic viewing mode with the buttons on the interface.

Pros

The software makes it possible to play stereoscopic videos, regardless of their layout. It stores the input settings for each video, relieving you from re-doing them each time you load the same file. It can also download the ideal settings for popular 3D movies.

Cons

Additional skins for the interface would make the player look better. If you enjoy watching 3D movies, Stereoscopic Player allows you to play them from the comfort of your home. It provides you with the best solution for playing stereoscopic videos, regardless of their input formats.
